Introduction to Practical Shotgun

You have heard Joe Biden say, "If there's ever a problem, just walk out on the balcony here, walk out and put that double-barrel shotgun and fire two blasts outside the house." You have heard the old wives tale that with a shotgun "you don't even need to aim." I'm sure you've also heard people say that "racking" a shotgun is enough to get the "bad guy" out of your house. Unfortunately for us, none of the above is true, nor is it good advice.

With such a wide variety of shotgun ammunition available, the instructors at Proper Defense believe, without a doubt, that the shotgun is the ultimate weapon system. On one hand, you are able to deliver nine .33 caliber pellets with a single pull of a trigger. While on the other, you can accurately send one ounce of lead, traveling 1600f/s, 200 yards. The shotgun is a thinking man's (or woman's!) gun. It is always hungry and needs to be operated efficiently in order to be potent.

The instruction given by the staff at Proper Defense is dynamic. While all of our classes have a structured curriculum (listed below), each class may vary depending on the students' level of proficiency. We encourage you to view the outline as an glimpse of what to expect; however, the topics covered may change.
