The First of Many...

“Awareness is the currency with which we buy time to act.” – Mickey Schuch, Carry Trainer.

The first of many..

To keep our past, present, and future alumni up to date with all things Proper Defense, we have decided to begin publishing a monthly newsletter.

This has been our most successful training year since our inaugural year in 2018. Between private instruction, consulting, and group classes, we have been quite busy since the Spring. In our flagship class, Introduction to Defensive Handgun, we have had the pleasure of instructing dozens of students this summer. While most of our students are local to Berks county, some have travelled from other parts of Pennsylvania, with even a handful of them coming from New Jersey, Delaware & Maryland. We are truly honored that you have chosen our school to better prepare yourselves for a violent encounter.

Because we stand behind the fact that nobody is an expert, we, too, continue to practice and learn. This year, we have been afforded the opportunity to travel the country and train with some of the best institutes and instructors. Early this summer, we participated in a combined 25 days of instruction at Gunsite, the oldest firearm training school in the nation, located in Arizona. Just last week, we took a class with Rob Pincus, from I.C.E. Training, and were fascinated by the physiological and analytical approach he shared during his class, the Fundamentals of Intuitive Defense Shooting. Continuing our education keeps us sharp and allows us to update our curriculum as the industry changes. This ensures that the investment you make with Proper Defense is not only beneficial, but also relevant.

Early on the in the year, we had numerous students express their concerns with shooting nearly 500 rounds of ammo in one class, as that would have cost them a small fortune, their firstborn, and whatever lint they had in their pockets. Fortunately for us, it seems that panic-buying has slowed down and manufacturers are catching up on their production. As a result, the price and availability of ammo has returned to what we once remembered. While the cost is not as low as it once was, it has dropped considerably from where it was a year ago. This is great news for those of us that enjoy getting out and shooting!

Lastly, we are proud to announce that Proper Defense has been sponsored by U.S. Law Shield – A Legal Defense for Self Defense. We carry insurance on our vehicles, a policy on our home, and, if you’re like me, health insurance for our pets. But, what if, God forbid, you’re forced to use your firearm to defend yourself or a loved one? This is where U.S. Law Shield steps in to help with your ensuing legal battle. As part of our sponsorship, students can expect to see them at our upcoming classes. Additionally, Proper Defense alumni may attend educational seminars focusing on a number of topics, including how to handle an active shooter situation, navigating encounters with law enforcement, and everything in between.

There are still a few spots available for our Introduction to Defensive Handgun class on September 12th. For any returning students, we appreciate your continued support and vested interest in Proper Defense. For students who have yet to take a class with us we hope to see you soon. Lastly, those of you who have signed up for the first time, we look forward to seeing you on the range and are eager to learn with you.

Look for our newsletter in the final week of the upcoming months to read more about what we have been up to!

Thank you, and maintain a Proper Defense
